Halifax Day and Prelude to Revolution
Celebrate the 248th anniversary of the Halifax Resolves, the first official action by an entire colony recommending independence from Great Britain. This event serves as the official North Carolina Kickoff event of America’s 250th Commemoration, which will start a multi-year celebration of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. Activities for school groups will take place that morning. The Historical Halifax Restoration Association will host their annual Halifax Day ceremony featuring a guest speaker, at 2 pm followed by a reception. The NC Society Sons of the American Revolution will host a wreath-laying ceremony at 10:30 a.m.
On Saturday & Sunday, help commemorate the beginning of the American Revolution while celebrating the anniversary of the Halifax Resolves. Enjoy living history activities, historic weapons demonstrations, and military drills, and interact with characters from Halifax’s past. The day begins with a traditional Native American ceremony at Magazine Spring, hosted by the Haliwa-Saponi Tribe at 10 am A short military parade will process along King Street at 11 am Guest speakers will present on various topics throughout the day.
